LocHal: Tilburg’s Iconic Library and Cultural Hub

Located in a beautifully restored 1930s locomotive hall, LocHal Library has become one of the Netherlands’ most inspiring public spaces. Opened in 2019, this award-winning venue seamlessly blends industrial heritage with contemporary design, offering far more than a traditional library experience.

Visitors are greeted by soaring steel beams, warm wooden accents, and sweeping glass façades that flood the space with natural light. Inside, LocHal houses thousands of books alongside state-of-the-art digital resources, co-working areas, and creative “labs” for experimenting with technology, textiles, and media. The building also features grand textile curtains designed by Dutch designers, which create flexible zones for lectures, exhibitions, and workshops.

LocHal is a true community hub. Beyond lending books, it regularly hosts cultural events, talks, and educational programs for all ages. Its central café provides an inviting spot to meet, study, or simply enjoy the atmosphere.

Recognized internationally for its innovative approach, LocHal has won multiple architecture and design awards. Whether you’re a student, a professional, or a curious traveler, LocHal offers an unforgettable space to read, collaborate, and be inspired — a vibrant example of how libraries can redefine themselves for the 21st century.
